Should You Pop a Blister?
By Nina'sWorld
Blisters can occur to anyone and most aside from being unsightly, it can also be quite painful. This is why many people ask, should you pop a blister? Most often, blisters tend to pop on their own but if this is the case, the person may run the risk of having the blister infected. Most women experience having blisters after wearing high heels or uncomfortable pairs of shoes. Depending on the size as well as the location of the blisters, you may or may not need to give too much attention to it. However if it gets in the way of your daily routine of perhaps your work, you may have to do something about it. It is not advisable though to pop the blister on your own without taking all the necessary measures to make sure that your blister will not get infected. Here are some of the things that you must keep in mind should you pop a blister.
First, make sure to wash your hands thoroughly using an anti-bacterial soap. This is in order to prevent infection from spreading Wear latex gloves and wash the surrounding skin of the blister using a disinfectant soap. Take a needle (a sewing needle can be used for this, or you can also use the tip of a small knife or a scalpel) and sterilize it by placing it in a disinfectant solution for at least three minutes. You can also try heating the tip until it glows red and they allow it to cool.
Make a small incision at the base of the blister and using your finger, apply little pressure on it to remove the fluid and pus. It is important to make the incision at the bottom of the blister and keep its roof intact so it can protect the skin underneath. Using a clean paper towel or cloth to wipe the area and immediately apply an antibiotic ointment to it to ensure that it would not get infected. Use a gauze or a bandage to wrap the area afterward. It is important to clean the blister at least twice a day to prevent infection.
Wash your hands properly after popping the blister. It is also advisable to get rid of the needle and all the supplies you used to treat your blister. Should you pop a blister, these are all the important steps that you should follow. If the blister is big, you may want to go to your doctor and have him or her treat it for you instead.
