- It is important to clean your face before using a facial steamer. If there are oil and dirt that remains on the surface on the skin, it may further clog the pores when you steam it. You should make sure to dry your face with a clean towel after washing it.
- Put water in the reservoir of the steamer. Most often it would require you to place a cup clean water. You should add just the right amount of water as you would not want it to overflow. Determine how your facial steamer is operated as well. Some work on electricity while others operate on batteries. Depending on the facial steamer that you bought, some come with a separate compartment where you can place essential oils of your choice. There are various essential oil which help in effectively soothing and detoxifying the skin.
- You will be needing other items particularly a clean towel which is large enough to cover your face and your shoulders as you will be using it when you steam your face. You should also have another clean towel, a cotton ball, toner and moisturizer.
- Facial steamers have settings which you can adjust depending on how you would want it to work. Make sure that the temperature setting is not too high as it might scald your skin instead of just steaming it. It is also important to keep in mind that your face should be at least 8 to 12 inches from the steamer. It takes around 2 to 3 minutes before steam starts coming out of the machine. It is advisable to steam the face for at least 5 minutes but you can extend it up to 10.
- Once your face has been steamed, rinse it with clean water and pat your face dry with a clean towel. Apply your preferred toner and moisturizer.
