A lot of people today prefer to use a cast iron tea kettle to brew their beverage over other tea makers even if these make tea at a less amount of time. Cast iron kettles are able to produce better tasting tea and perhaps it is seen as a traditional way of brewing tea. This type of teapot kettles are good investments but you have to make sure that you are taking good care of it properly. A cast iron tea kettle can last you many years but you have to know how to use and clean it the right way without damaging it. Whether you are using or cleaning the cast iron kettle, you need to keep a few guidelines in mind to keep it scratch free and so that you will still be able to use it in the coming years. Here are some of the simple steps on how to use a cast iron tea kettle properly.

  • If you are using your cast iron tea kettle for the first time, make sure to rinse it with hot water and to dry it inside out using a dry clean cloth. It is important to make sure that you dry the teapot kettle each time you rinse it.
  • Keep in mind that the cast iron teapot kettle is meant to brew tea and should not be used as a stove-top kettle. If you place it on a stove, you will damage the kettle's enamel lining. Therefore if you will be brewing tea, place hot water on the it from another source instead of boiling it directly on the cast iron kettle. Also, never place your cast iron kettle in a microwave oven as it will get worn out as well.
  • It is not advisable to keep water in the kettle for long periods of time because this might cause rust. You should also wipe the outside of the kettle
  • When cleaning your cast iron teapot kettle, use a soft sponge and dish washing soap. Do not use a scrub even on the outside as you will scratch your teapot. Unless your kettle has an enamel coating, do not place it in a dish washer.
  • Do not use metal utensils should you need to stir the tea. If there is a need to do so, it is recommended that you use a wooden spoon.
  • Any type of tea kettle is prone to having residue buildup particularly near the spout and the rim. To clean your kettle without scratching it, use olive oil and salt.
These are the simple ways on how you can make sure that your cast iron tea kettle is in good condition. If you do so, you can be sure that you will be able to use your tea kettle for quite a long time.
