How to Get Rid of Oily Skin

By

Many women are looking for ways on how to get rid of oily skin. Aside from being embarrassed with having oily skin, it is also seen as one of the reasons for having acne and blemishes. Oily skin occurs when the sebaceous glands are overactive. Although it is normal for the glands to produce oil, when it produces too much oil it leaves the skin looking shiny. You may also be prone to acne and blackhead breakouts. There are also other factors that can cause oily skin such as diet, lack of exercise, cosmetics and other facial products, weather, hormones and stress. On the other hand, it is believed that people who have oily skin tend to have fewer wrinkles as they age. It also keeps the skin naturally hydrated. Still, it is best to keep the oil under control to prevent having a shiny face. Here are some tips on how you can get rid of oily skin.

People think that the best way to prevent having oily skin is by washing the face several times a day. However, this is not true. Cleaning your face too often can make the glands produce more sebum. It is advisable to wash your face twice a day and not more than that. You should use a gel facial cleanser rather than cream or bar soap as these will make your skin appear oilier and flaky. You may want to look for facial cleansers that are specifically made for oily skin.

You should also include using a toner in your skin regimen. It will help control the oil your skin produces without making your skin dry. You can try using clay masks at least twice a month to help unclog your pores and remove dirt and other impurities. Do not forget to put sunscreen. Many women think that because they have oily skin, they do not need to use a moisturizer or a sunscreen. No matter what skin type a person has, he or she needs to have a protection against UV rays.

When choosing your makeup, you should get products that are oil free and water based. There are cosmetics that can clog the pores and might be the cause for having oily skin and acne breakouts. You should also try makeup products that contain acne medication. It will also be helpful to invest in and always bring with you oil blotters. This will keep the shine at bay throughout the day.

Did you know that stress can be a factor in having oily skin and breakouts? It is then important to relax and unwind. You may also want to exercise regularly as this refreshes the skin. You should also keep you diet healthy. Reduce your intake of deep fried food and sweets. Instead, increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables. If you have tried various products and still have oily skin, you should consult your dermatologist if only to make sure that you have a major skin condition.

Moisturizing is VERY important. I recently got some moisturizer (I didn't get an oil-free one, just because for some reason all the oil free moisturizers I've tried have made my face even oilier! whowouldathunkit)), specifically St Ives Collagen Elastin. My oil production has decreased DRAMATICALLY!! I'm guessing this is because my face doesn't have to compensate for oil lost during cleansing, since I apply a moisturizer w/ Shea butter and mineral oil right after...who knows... :) but thanks for the article!!! Its the reason I ran out to get a moisturizer.
