It can be quite common for people to fall asleep particularly if they are under stress or perhaps have many things going through their minds. Everyone knows how frustrating this can be more so if you need to get some sleep even if you are not tired. Sleep is very important which is why people should learn how to be able to rest despite not feeling like sleeping or taking a nap. This helps ensure that you feel rejuvenated the following day. It is also essential to get as much rest as you can if you will be having a busy day the next morning. It is a good thing that there are simple tips on how to sleep when not tired.

Write a List of Things to Do the Next Day

One of the reasons why people find it difficult to fall asleep is because they have too much on their mind that you probably have to do the following day or are simply bothering you. If it would help to put your mind at ease, you should consider writing down on a notepad the things that you will have to do the next day or ideas that have suddenly come up while you are lying down. It is quite common for people to have ideas while they are in bed. If you are afraid of forgetting these, write it down so that you still will be able to be reminded of it upon waking up. When you are able to get rid of all the things that are on your mind, you will be able to relax and help you fall asleep faster.

Try Meditating Before Going to Bed

People who take time to meditate in the morning usually start their day on the right track. However, did you know that meditation can also be used to wind down after a busy day? It depends on each person how long he or she would like to meditate before going to bed but anywhere between 5 to 30 minutes would be good. When meditating, try to get rid of the stresses that you have had on the day. There are many people who have been practicing this every night and they said that it really helps them to sleep even when they are not tired.

Have a Regular Sleep Pattern

There are a lot of experts who agree that it is helpful to go to bed at a regular time. If your schedule changes and you need to adjust your sleep pattern, you should still go to bed at your planned time and get up earlier. This will help your body to readjust and sleep earlier in the coming days. However, people who were not able to get enough rest should avoid driving or operating heavy machinery. If you did not sleep well, you may want to ask someone else to drive you to work.

Avoid Stimulants 2-3 Hours Before Bedtime

If you want to have a good night’s sleep, you should definitely avoid taking stimulants a few hours before going to bed. There are a lot of products that contain caffeine such as coffee, tea, sodas particularly colas, energy drinks and energy bars. Aside from that, cigarettes should also be avoided as it contains nicotine which is strong enough to stimulate even someone who is quite tired. There are also some medicines including aspirin which has caffeine so you should check labels before deciding to take one prior to your bedtime.

If You Still Can’t Sleep, Get Out of Bed

If you still can’t go to sleep after trying these, get out of bed and do something. Staying in bed even if you are not sleepy will not be good for your body as you might get used to it which will make it harder to sleep. If you have been in bed for 15 minutes but you still have not fallen asleep, get up and read a book or clean your room. When you are done, go back to bed. These simple steps will make you feel somewhat tired and sleep faster.

Great advise Nina. I'll admit that I take the easy way out. If I can't shut it down, I pop in a Trazadone 100mg and start dreaming. I'll try following your advise next time, and see if I can replace the pill! Up, useful, and interesting my friend.
