If you are keen on pursuing this career, here are the ways on how you can become a flight attendant.

  • Most airline carriers would require flight attendants to be at least 18 years of age while some only accept applicants that are aged at least 21. About your educational background, many airline companies do not require their applicants to have a degree although it would help if you have one. If you have a few years of experience in customer service, this can usually compensate for the college degree. Keep in mind though that many airline companies today would prefer if you have both a degree and customer service experience.
  • There may also be height requirements for this job. You won't be needing a passport upon application as you can get one while you are in training. It would be better though if you already have yours ready. Learning another language can be of great help.
  • When have the requirements ready, you should start submitting your resume to different airline companies. You may be required to fill out applications online for them to be able to process it. Of course, you can't expect all of the companies you applied for to call you for an interview. On average though, you can expect at least one interview for every three to four job applications.
  • You need to be prepared to relocate to another city or even country. You will be undergoing a three to six weeks of training and most often, you will be on reserve status for at least a year. You will need to be available to fly even on short notice. Once you start getting regular assignments, you can expect to fly around 75 to 85 hours every month. Most of the companies will only pay you for per hour.

Before pursuing this career though, it is important that you are physically, mentally and emotionally prepared for it. This can be a strenuous job as at times, you will be getting only a few hours of sleep. You also need to be able to cope with stress. Also remember that you may need to work on weekends and holidays and will be spending some time away from your family and friends should you be assigned to another city or continent.
